After successfully placing nearly 23,000 pets in homes, BISSELL Pet Foundation is back to Empty the Shelters at 127 participating shelters across the country. On Saturday, October 12, adopters will have a chance to bring a pet home for the reduced fee of $25 while BPF sponsors the remaining cost.
Michigan is one of 26 states included in this nationwide effort to encourage families to adopt a pet and save a life. BISSELL Headquarters located at 2345 Walker Ave NW in Grand Rapids, Michigan will host 11 shelter/rescue organizations under one “woof” to maximize the exposure of different pets from different areas. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., interested adopters are invited to view both cats and dogs from the following organizations:
Over 50 dogs and 80 cats are expected to be at BISSELL’s adoption location. Members of the community can also enjoy pup-corn, ice cream and wood-fired pizza from Van Awesome Pizza! While searching for your new furry friend, you can also support homeless pets by shopping BPF merchandise; 100% of proceeds will directly impact homeless pets. Additionally, Beer City Dog Biscuits will join in on this exciting adoption day to pass out yummy treats!
Many shelter and rescue organizations require a preapproval process, which may require an in-person visit the week leading up to the event. To see a list of all participating locations, event hours and preapproval requirements, please visit bissellpetfoundation.org/ETS.
All adoptable pets available during Empty the Shelters will be microchipped and spayed/neutered. BPF requires that all microchips must be registered to the adopter before they leave, to increase the chance of pets reuniting with their owners, if lost. A microchip registration and license fee may apply—costs may vary by location.
Please be reminded that adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. If you’re not able to adopt, please consider supporting BISSELL Pet Foundation’s lifesaving work at bissellpetfoundation.org/donate. To date, BPF has impacted over 200,000 pets through grant funding for adoption, spay/neuter, microchipping and foster care.
