The Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care works to reduce the number of adoptable pets euthanized in county shelters and promote the humane treatment of animals through responsible pet ownership. They focus on helping connect animals to loving homes, and reducing animal overpopulation through spay/neuter programs. Through a BISSELL Pet Foundation Grant, the Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care were able to spay/neuter 75 pets within the community.
One cat in particular was fully nursed back to health after being neglected thanks to the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s support. January is a solid white cat who lost all of her hearing. Sadly, she was abandoned by her owners when they moved. They left her to survive in the cold outdoors even though she had known nothing but the comfort of a home her entire life. When she was found, she had a serious wound on her back, possibly from an animal attack. After several tests, it was discovered that she was having a serious allergic reaction, possibly to the saliva of the animal that attacked her. She was in need of immediate medical attention and required steroids to heal. The Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care spayed January and provided all other vetting care. Luckily, she regained her full health and was adopted into a loving forever home.
The Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care found that one of the largest costs they incur is spay/neuter costs. Without the support of grants, the Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care would not be able to continue their foster/adoption program. With funding made possible from the BISSELL Pet Foundation, the Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care plans to save even more pets in 2015.
